Abstract

This study conducted to determine which better predicts life satisfaction for the community-dwelling elderly people among several health-related indexes such as depressive symptoms, activities of daily living levels, states of subjective health, and levels of sleep satisfaction, as well as some socio-demographic variables. Regression analyses revealed depressive symptoms as the most powerful predictor variable, while subjective health, research participants¡¯ age, and cohabitation status with their offsprings were also found as significant predictor variables. These results suggest that the best way of improving elderly people¡¯s quality of life may be to reduce their symptoms of depression and/or to cut down any element which is associated with the symptoms.
